A comic book script by Seamus McMahon

PAGE ONE
3 PANELS. Three tier layout.

Panel One:
A busy metropolitan scene at the corner of a busy intersection. Pedestrians are crossing the road, and cars are backed up at lights. The only thing that is strange is that all of the citizens of this city are anthropomorphic animals. Dogs, ducks, mice, rabbits, pigs and the like go about their business. (Note: it is very important to the plot that all of the animals have on Mickey Mouse gloves and only have 4 fingers-- or three fingers and a thumb, if you prefer to think of it that way-- on each hand.) There is a clock mounted over a doorway, and the Roman numerals on it are incorrect. Going clockwise, beginning from one, they read I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIV, XV. This shouldn't be too obvious, but if the reader is paying attention, they will be able to see it. The time on the clock, if you ignore the numerals, is 11:59.

CAPTION: THE DAY WAS LIKE ANY OTHER DAY IN DOGSVILLE, USA.

Panel two:
Same shot as above, except in the middle of the intersection a glowing form is beginning to take shape. It is abstract, but the form will become the two figures in the next panel. And the clock now reads (if you ignore the numerals) 12:00. Traffic has stopped and pedestrians are staring at the glowing shape.

CAPTION: THAT IS, UNTIL PRECISELY AT NOON.

Panel Three:
Same as last panel, except the glowing shape is now composed of two human men. They stand a good two-feet above the height of the average Dogsville citizen. The two humans, Captain Mann and Lieutenant Homme, are wearing huge, ridiculously bulky armor and are armed with myriad futuristic weapons of obscene proportions.

CAPTAIN MANN: ATTENTION ALL INHABITANTS OF THIS PLANET, I AM CAPTAIN MANN OF THE MULTIVERSAL PEACEKEEPING CORP, AND I CLAIM THIS DIMENSION IN THE NAME OF EARTH-1!

CAPTION: THEN IT LOOKED LIKE THINGS WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.

PAGE TWO
Six Panel grid. 5 PANELS. Third panel is two panel grids wide.

One third tier, first panel is larger than second panel.

Panel One:
Medium close-up of Captain Mann. He is a large man by human standards, muscular and large chinned, the heroic archetype. He has a look of utmost seriousness.

CAPTAIN MANN: YOU WILL NOW AND FOREVERMORE BE KNOWN AS EARTH-1439 OF THE INTERDIMENSIONAL EMPIRE!

Panel Two:
Mann and Homme in medium shot. Mann in foreground, Homme behind him to the side. Homme, a thinner man with thin sharp facial features, is holding what looks to be a bazooka as designed by Jack Kirby.

CAPTAIN MANN: AND TO LET ALL UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE SERIOUS, WE WILL PRESENT A DEMONSTRATION OF WHAT WE ARE CAPABLE OF...

CAPTAIN MANN: LIEUTENANT HOMME...

Panel Three:
Large panel. Homme is firing the weapon, and it is giving off a huge, electrifying burst.

SFX: FSHZZZTHHUOOMM

Panel Four:
Far shot. We see Mann and Homme from behind. In the background is ruins, what used to be part of the city we saw a little of on the first page. The weapon seems to have obliterated most of everything within view. A few anthropomorphic animals stand in poses of cartoon shock. No dialogue.

Panel Five:
Small panel. Close-up of Mann, who has a tight smile on his face.

CAPTAIN MANN: NOW...

CAPTAIN MANN: TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER.

PAGE THREE
SIX PANELS.

Panel One:
Mann is standing on a platform and behind him is a stylized map of the Earth, very much like our own Earth. He has taken an almost Shakespearean pose, reciting the speech he's made to so many other Earths in other dimensions.

CAPTION (TOP OF PANEL): SOON, AT THE UNITED NATIONS BUILDING...

CAPTAIN MANN: ...SO YOU MUST SURRENDER AND ALLOW US TO BRING OUR TROOPS THROUGH A DIMENSIONAL PORTAL, OR WE SHALL DESTROY YOUR PLANET.

Panel Two:
Medium shot of Chipmunk in a well-cut suit standing behind a podium. He is the president of the world. At one side, there is a duck dressed like an archetypal Scientist: he has the frizzy hair, a lab coat, and a slide-rule sticking out of his front pocket.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK: SIR, I'M SURE YOU WOULD ALLOW THAT WE MUST HAVE TIME TO DELIBERATE ON SUCH A... DELICATE DECISION.

Panel Three:
Close-up on Mann. He looks very pleased with himself.

CAPTAIN MANN: OF COURSE, PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK.

CAPTAIN MANN: YOU FIVE MINUTES TO DECIDE.

Panel Four:
Mann and Homme are standing outside a large door, which has the same map of the world we saw behind Mann in panel one. They are waiting outside the chamber for the allotted five minutes.

CAPTAIN MANN: WHO WAS THAT ODD DUCK THE PRESIDENT WAS SPEAKING TO?

LIEUTENANT HOMME: PROFESSOR CANARD. SEEMS HE'S ONE OF THEIR TOP SCIENTISTS. HE'S THE ONE I GOT THE ASTRONOMICAL COORDINATES FOR OPENING THE PORTAL FROM.

Panel Five:
Medium shot. Mann is grinning and slapping Homme on the back. Homme looks very serious.

CAPTAIN MANN: GOT THE COORDINATES? GOOD JOB, HOMME! THAT WILL GET US OFF THIS DIRT BALL A LOT QUICKER.

CAPTAIN MANN: I HOPE THE NEXT DIMENSION AT LEAST HAS ANTHROPOID WOMEN.

Panel Six:
President Chipmunk is again at his podium and Professor Canard is again by his side. Caption: Five minutes later.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK: WE AGREE TO YOUR TERMS.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK: YOU MAY OPEN YOUR PORTAL.

PAGE FOUR
Seven PANELS. Three tiers.
First tier: Three equal sized panels.
Second tier: Two smaller panels, one larger.
Third tier: one large panel.

Panel One:
Medium long shot. Homme is in the foreground working on a machine, a pile of wires, transistors and screens with just a touch of Rube Goldberg in its (lack of) design sense. Mann stands behind Homme. The captain has regained his portentous Shakespeare pose, obviously enjoying the theatrical aspect of this part of the mission.

CAPTAIN MANN: NOW, UTILIZING THE COORDINATES YOU'VE PROVIDED, WE SHALL OPEN THE PORTAL, AND OUR TROOPS WILL ENTER. IT IS A DELICATE AND DANGEROUS TASK, REFLECTING THE COURAGE AND RESOURCEFULNESS OF THE MEN OF EARTH-1.

LIEUTENANT HOMME: UH, SIR. I'M WONDERING...

Panel Two:
Same angle, but pan in. Homme's face is in the foreground, Mann's upper half is behind him. Homme is looking down at the machine he's working on. Mann looks slightly perturbed at having his speech interrupted.

CAPTAIN MANN: YES, LIEUTENANT?

LIEUTENANT HOMME: THE COORDINATES. SHOULDN'T WE CHECK THEM?

Panel Three:
Same layout as last panel. Homme has his eyebrows' knit and is chewing on his lower lip. Mann strikes a pose of condescending exasperation.

CAPTAIN MANN: THEY ARE TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM CANARD'S DATA SYSTEM, RIGHT?

LIEUTENANT HOMME: YES, BUT...

CAPTAIN MANN: SO HE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TIME TO CHANGE THEM. GO AHEAD, LIEUTENANT.

Panel Four:
Pan further in. Homme is no longer in panel. Medium close-up of Mann, who looks like he's really trying not to lose his cool, but is not doing the best job of it.

LIEUTENANT HOMME (off-panel): BUT...

CAPTAIN MANN: LIEUTENANT, YOU WERE GIVEN AN ORDER!

LIEUTENANT HOMME (off-panel): SIR, I...

Panel Five:
Close-up of Mann. He looks angry as hell, and the veins in his forehead bulge.

CAPTAIN MANN: PULL THE SWITCH, LIEUTENANT!!

SFX: FLICK

Panel Six:
Huge sound effect.

SFX: KKRRRRPMD

Panel Seven:
There is a large burn spot on the floor. In and around the spot are pieces of the machine Homme was working, as well as parts of Mann and Homme's armor and weapons. They have been blown, literally, to bits. No dialogue.

PAGE FIVE SIX PANELS.

Panel One:
Close up of Professor Canard, who is polishing his glasses.

PROFESSOR CANARD: AH, MUCH AS I EXPECTED. I PRESUMED THE CAPTAIN'S HUBRIS AND IMPATIENCE WOULD MAKE HIM CARELESS.

Panel Two:
Canard and Chipmunk are standing side by side. Chipmunk is looking at Canard, who is breathing on his spectacles.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK: I TRUSTED YOU, PROFESSOR CANARD, AND AM DARN GLAD I DID.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK: BUT WHAT HAPPENED? WEREN'T THE COORDINATES CORRECT?

Panel Three:
Canard and Chipmunk again. Without the humans there, they seem even more cartoony. Chipmunk looks slightly agitated at Canard, who is studying a charred piece of machinery from the explosion.

PROFESSOR CANARD: OH, THEY WERE CORRECT, BUT NOT BY THEIR NUMERICAL SYSTEM.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK: YOU SAID THAT BEFORE, CANARD, BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Panel Four:
Close-up of Canard, who is staring into space, thinking.

PROFESSOR CANARD: FIRST IT WAS THE NAME THEY CALLED US, "EARTH-1439". AFTER THAT, IT WAS THEIR HANDS THAT MADE ME THINK OF IT, THAT THEY WOULD USE A BASE-10 SYSTEM.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND. WHAT'S A "NINE"?

Panel Five:
Close-up of Chipmunk looking exasperated.

PROFESSOR CANARD (OFF-PANEL): USE YOUR FINGERS TO COUNT TO TEN, MR. PRESIDENT.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK: OK, IT SEEMS SILLY TO ME, BUT I'LL DO IT.

Panel Six:
Large panel. Close-up of the backs of Chipmunk's hands. They are, of course in Mickey Mouse gloves, and he only has four fingers on each hand. The word balloons for each number counted should be over the finger being counted.

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 1

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 2

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 3

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 4

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 5

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 6

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 7

PRESIDENT CHIPMUNK (OFF-PANEL): 10

CAPTION: THE END
